It all begins with an idea. Anita is a visionary and master weaver. In 1978 Anita began weaving rugs from recycled materials, after many years of learning how to weave yarns on Rigid heddle table looms.
Fueled by earth day celebrations she has been using recycled materials that has spanned four decades. Materials used for her rug making include but are not limited to: cotton sheets, bedspreads, blue jeans, twine, socks and sweater cotton blends; wool blankets, coats, pants and burlap coffee bean bags.
In 1983 Anita owned Southern Sisters workshop in Makanda, Illinois for over 20 years. She closed shop, moved to New Orleans right before Hurricane Katrina, then relocated to the Oregon Coast in 2008. She showcased her rugs in Tillamook County at The Drift Inn restaurant in Yachats and at various pop up shows across Oregon.
At present, she retails her hand-woven rugs at arts/farmers markets in the Greater Jacksonville, FL area and she maintains her same passion for weaving that she had in the 70’s.
